p-tex is a multimedia and
sonic artist who explores and has an interest in how
mans involvement with machines affects the way we
are and will become. Other explorations include frequency,
globalisation, capitalism, hyper-realities, transaprency,
autonomy and. p-tex specialsies in combining software
and various technologies in his work with recent projects
utilising Linux and open-source software.
Jason is BA graduate of the
University of Central Lancashire in Multimedia and
Sonic Arts. In may 04 p-tex had his CD Rom "Zap
Zone - a hyper reality" displayed at the Preston
Arts Festival 04. Jason has recently fulfilled a commission
for folly.co.uk. for their Grow Your Own Media Lab
project. (see below). Jason has also achieved a HND
in music production and gained a B-tec National Diploma
at Preston College in music technology.
He also works in the facilitation
of other artists in their work such as Maggy
and Boris
Howarth, Janette
Ireland and is currently employed as assistant
technical stage manager for Ludus
Dance.
More recently in October 06 Jason worked as technical
installation assistant at the f.city festival for
folly.co.uk.
as well as a volunteer during the exhibition.
In August 06 p-tex gained
a commission for the GYOML
in a field project for access-space and folly.co.uk.
For this installation/performance p-tex hacked a USB
games joypad by wiring various sensors to it, allowing
natures elements to control and modulate software
patches created in pure-data, an open source data
streaming software.
Jason has also attended a series of workshops on FLOSS
(free libre open source software)ran at the Canteen
in Barrow, as part of the GYOML projects - such as;
fluxus a real time code grahic software, blender
a free 3d animation software, processing, pure-data
and the goto10 linux based operating system pure-dyne,
this is a specially developed Linux operating system
for audio and video artists. In June he attended the
folly summer school of sound at More Music in Morecambe,
which was a pure-data
workshop with ixi-software.
